Life Giving Landscapes endeavors to create uniquely beautiful spaces offering all-season interest. These landscapes require less routine maintenance, are better at storing carbon, and are duly equipped to offer resources and habitat for native wildlife. Home nursery plants are grown from seed and drawn from the list by Dr. Robert Gegear, a local biologist and pollination systems researcher advising on imperiled species of native bees and butterflies/moths.

In addition to removing invasives and installing native plants we encourage:

• Strategic/staggered mowing to allow overwintering insects to complete their life cycles.

• Leaving leaves or placing them deliberately to utilize them for mulch, feed the soil and create habitat for fireflies and other wildlife. This also means shifting away from reliance on noisy, carbon emitting leaf-blowers and mowers.

• Filling spaces with plants and/or using natural wood chips, leaves and hay for cover rather than relying on commercial bark mulch.

• Utilizing strategic outdoor lighting practices to reduce disruption to fireflies and migrating birds.

• Utilizing humane mosquito, tick and rodent control to protect pollinators, raptors and small mammals.
